In this post-Spring Break (but maybe not actually Spring) week, we’ll move on from human motion synthesis in terms of lectures, although you are still working on the project. In terms of subject matter, we’ll start to talk about character geometry – rigging and skinning. We’ll also plan for the rest of the semester.
- Monday (3/21) – We’ll begin discussing rigging and skinning. I haven’t asked you to read anything yet, but if you want to take a peak at the Skinning Readings page, you’ll get an idea of what’s coming. We’ll also talk about some semester planning (in the abstract), with the idea of me getting some sense of what you want so I can make more choices.
- Wednesday (3/23) – We’ll talk about skinning. You should look over papers A1, A2 and B1 on the Skinning Readings page. For now, you should just get acquainted with the ideas to discuss them in class. But start to thing about how they each try to address the problems with basic skinning. You will be given an assignment about this for next week.
- Friday (3/25) – The main thing is that the Project Checkpoint is due. However, in class, we’ll continue to talk about skinning and rigging. Have a look at C1 (the tutorial on Harmonic Coordinates). I want everyone to have thought a bit about the kinds of things they might be interested in learning about for the rest of the semester.
Next week, we’ll have a “reading/writing assignment” based on the skinning readings, and planning for final projects. And more progress on Project 1.
