This past week, we talked about perception – except that we avoided talking about color. Then we did a design exercise (in which, many aspects of encoding came out – despite the fact we didn’t get to the “lecture” on encodings). And again, color kept coming up.
So, for this week, we won’t put it off any longer: we’re going to learn about color! (and then we’ll come back to talking about encodings, since it will be easier to include color)
- On Tuesday, we’ll talk about color in theory. For Monday, there’s a bunch of reading, discussion, and web playing. The readings are a little redundant, so they’ll go fast. Don’t get hung up in the details of color spaces (yet). I had wanted to give you a simplified version of color science before class, but that didn’t happen.
- On Thursday (2/26), we’ll talk about color in practice and we’ll talk about the Design Challenge. For reading, you’ll read some more from that long list of color resources, and continue the same discussion.
- There is a Seek and Find about color due Wednesday
- Also, the design challenge is due before Thursday. (at least phase 2 is). Hopefully from the in-class design exercise, you can see there are lots of imaginative ways to approach this kind of problem. Also, hopefully the in-class design exercise makes you appreciate the reasons for doing these toy problems.
- There is no 838 only assignment for this week.
In the following week, we’ll talk about encodings again.
