Design Warmup 2: Make my visualizations: Grading Information

This page explains the feedback for Design Warmup 2: Make my visualizations. Your feedback is a comment on your Canvas submission. For each item it gives the assessment, any codes, and comments, then an overall comment, the score, and the grade.

The biggest comment: this assignment was difficult to excel at - the grades were clustered in a very narrow range. Most students did well, but it was almost impossible to do “notably well” to score more than a borderline A. If you really succeeded at this assignment, you learned enough that you will be able to excel at DE2.

The goal of this assignment wasn’t to assess your visualization knowledge: it was to make sure you are ready for DE2.

Codes

Codes are short labels for things we noticed, so the same observation gets the same name for everyone. A code is written like G:ADDDET: the letter before the colon is its valence (B = Bad, U = Ugly, N = Neutral, G = Good, S = Superlative). The letter shows how the code applies to your answer, which can differ from the code’s usual valence listed here. A code written without a letter, like :ADDDET, has its usual valence.

Ugly

  • NOPARTC No valid answer for Part C (Milestone Q9-11)
  • NOQ12 Insufficient answer for Q12
  • NOQ13 Insufficient answer for Q13
  • PARTCQ Insufficient answers for Part C (Milestone Q9-11) questions
  • SIMTOOLS Similar tools: The tools aren’t sufficiently different.

Good

  • ADDDET Added Details: Added details beyond the basic form
  • DESIGN Quality of the design
  • NOTEB Notable answer for Part B (Multi-Line)
  • NOTEC Notable answer for Part C (Milestone Q9-11)
