Weekly Rhythm
This class has many parts (see Parts of Class for descriptions). To keep things organized, each week will follow the same general rhythm:
- Monday: Class meeting (lecture and/or in-class exercise); Readings Due;
Surveys (content and/or class)Class Survey Due (some weeks); - Wednesday: Class meeting (lecture and/or in-class exercise); Discussion initial posting due; Content Survey Due (most weeks);
- Friday: Seek and Find Due; Design Exercise Due
Other than class meetings (11-12:15), everything is due on that day, Madison time. If it’s 12:01am Tuesday, it’s not Monday. You should assume that all deadlines are strict. We will let you know if there are exceptions.
Or, organized by item:
- Class meetings (Monday, Wednesday)
- Readings (Monday)
- Surveys (Monday/Wednesday) - there are two surveys each week, content and class (some weeks there will only be one survey); class surveys are due on Mondays, content surveys are due on Wednesdays
- Discussion initial posting (Wednesday) - discussions stay open for a week after the initial posting deadline for follow-up conversation
- Seek and Find (Friday) - discussions stay open for a week after the initial posting deadline for follow-up conversation
- Design Exercise (Friday)
The weekly rhythm makes for some odd cadences in terms of how topics are spread out.
- Readings for a new topic aren’t technically due until Monday (which means after class). This means that Monday’s class cannot assume that everyone has read everything. Wednesday’s class can rely on the reading material.
- The Monday content survey comes before the Wednesday lecture. It will generally cover the readings and the content of the prior weeks’ classes. The idea is that is a check to make sure you understood the readings, and for you to reflect on what you learned in class.
