Surveys
Each week, there will be one or two surveys. These are Canvas “quizzes” (technically, they are surveys because Canvas does not grade them). We split them in two so we can keep them separate. Almost all weeks will have a “content” survey, and many weeks will have a class survey. Some of the class surveys may be anonymous.
Content Surveys will be questions about the material. They will be about material covered by the readings and the lectures. The primary purpose is for your self-assessment and reflection: the questions are a way for you to check if you were paying attention and getting the main points. Evaluation (us determining how much you learned) is not the main goal with these. We would prefer that we saw “honest wrong answers” (which would help us see concepts we need to reinforce) than dishonest wrong ones.
Class Surveys are ways for us to get information from you. Sometimes, these will be questionaires (non-anonymous) for us to collect things we need. Sometimes they will be anonymous surveys so we can get feedback on how things are going.
Canvas will give you full credit for completing the surveys. Even if the survey is anonymous, it will mark that you have completed it.
We may check the non-anonymous surveys to see if you actually made a good-faith effort to complete the surveys. We are not grading you to see if you got things correct. At most, we will look for evidence that you have some understanding of the content. We may give kudos for good answers.
Class surveys are due on Mondays. We do want the answers before Wednesday, as we might need them to influence class.
Content surveys are due on Wednesdays (after lecture). This gives you the opportunity to ask questions about the readings.
The surveys are always due on Mondays. However, they do not close until Tuesday, and there is no penalty for being late.
