The Week in Vis: Week 12 Color, Projects, Thanksgiving

It’s Thanksgiving week. The schedule is changed a little. I hope everyone has a good holiday.

This week we have a big topic: color. It seems so central. It seems so basic. But it turns out to be remarkably complex (and important). We can only scratch the surface. But, the amount we’ll do is also constrained by its Thanksgiving week, and the course project is starting (and I want students to focus on that).

We will have class Monday and Wednesday as usual. If you miss class on Wednesday, the usual instructions apply - but maybe try to do some more of the readings to make up for the fact that you won’t hear as much about color.

What may be unusual about class: I intend to stay around after class to discuss projects (or anything else) with students. Kindof like a replacement for office hours. Specifically, I will ask students still looking for a project partner to stay after class on Monday so we can make some introductions, and I will stay around after class on Wednesday in case there are more project questions (or any other kind of questions). I will cancel my regular office hours on Wednesday (don’t come to my office at 2:30), but I will be available after class (I can stay as long as necessary).

In terms of the project… the proposal is is due on Tuesday. For next week, expect some form of check to make sure you have actually started.

Because Friday is a holiday, we won’t have an end-of-week survey. We will have Seek and Find 12: Color (due Fri, Nov 25), but you can do it earlier in the week in place of the usual online discussion (the due date is still Friday).

Instead of the usual online discussion, we’ll do the seek and find.
