The Week in Vis: Week 11 (Nov 14-18): Design, ATUS Handins

This week was supposed to be color week. We’ll put that off so we can do things that are timely and relevant to the Design Exercise / Projects: we’ll talk about design, and you’ll read about uncertainty. And in class, we’ll do some brainstorming about projects and help people find partners and choose topics.

On Monday, we’ll have our “Design School in a Day” - my attempt to teach you a little bit of graphic design, in one class or less. I’ve never tried to do it without having students read first - but it seems like I can tell you the high points of the things we would read. Also, usually I try to couple it with more practice. But you can practice as part of the visualization assignments you are doing.

On Tuesday, there is a survey due about the Project - mainly to check that you’ve read it and are ready to discuss on Wednesday in class. Because, in class on Wednesday, we’ll brainstorm about the project - which will also provide an opportunity to talk to potential project partners.

A the end of the week, the visualization designs are due. There is a seek and find (for Uncertainty Visualization - which connects to the reading and to Project Theme4: Part Whole Distributions), but probably not to a lecture. There will not be a survey.
