Assignment 0: Get Yourself Set Up!

Due: before class on Tuesday, January 24th (remember Tuesday means before Wednesday)

Normally, I don’t count like a Computer Scientist, but in order to make the first “real” assignment be Assignment 1 (so it corresponds to Reading 1), I am starting with zero.

This isn’t a real assignment. It’s more of an administrative exercise, but I want you to do it right away – to make sure you can operate the machinery of this class before we get to content. Which will happen very soon.

You need to:

  1. Look around this course website and learn your way around. Make sure you see where assignments and readings and the calendar are all going to go. Set up the RSS feed and/or Google calendar if you use those kinds of things.
  2. Register for the Piazza website. Upload a profile picture (yes, that’s important). Look around and see the kinds of things I’ve put there. (you should have read about Piazza on the course web).
  3. Make sure you can access the protected course reader. The first reading assignment doesn’t require it, but later ones will. If you’re not a CS student, you will need to get your CS account set up.
  4. Do Assignment 1 (which will require you to use the things above – including finding the assignment on the web site, and Piazza, and …
