Assignment 5

by Mike Gleicher on October 3, 2012

This assignment is part of Project 2, but will be done individually (and count individually). It is due on Tuesday, October 9th.

In class on Tuesday, October 9th, we’ll be learning some more “framework” for talking about and thinking about game design, and we’ll want you to apply it to the game your designing. Which means you need to have started to think about what you’re designing!

The purpose of this assignment is to force each group to think about what they are going to

Before class on Tuesday, October 9th, everyone must:

  1. Meet with your group and have at least a rough idea of the game that you want to build. It’s best if you narrow things down.
  2. Each person should write a post on the forum in the “assignment 5” board (Mark will create a thread for each group – add your posting to the group thread). In this post, give a description of what you think the basic design of the game will be. A couple of paragraphs is fine. Attaching a picture (a sketch or storyboard) is often an effective way to communicate it. The main thing is to describe the game (what the player will see/do). This is less about the implementation details (although, you can comment on your ideas if you want), and more about the game design itself.
  3. Make your posting before reading your team-mates’ postings. Then go back afterwards and see if you are on the same page. (note: if you haven’t settled on a single idea yet, it might not surprise you to see different ideas described – maybe seeing them specified will help the decision process).

Please make your posting before class on Tuesday, October 9th.
