I am sure there are a million more recent versions of this theme.

The proposal makes it less clear what the player does, what choices they make, what options that have, what are the rammifications of their choices, … There are many possibilities in a game like this: is the player focused on driving the ship (being a good navigator), or choosing which products to transport, or …

One issue with games like this (in a short gameplay setting) is that some choices may have very long-term rammifications. So a player may not be able to make an informed decision, and the game might feel somewhat random. There are probably ways to design around this.
