If I understand correctly, this is basically making another Diablo/Rogue/Hack/… Which is a fine thing – many a good game has been made in this genre.

Making a game like this fun requires either adding a twist, or getting the balance and basic mechanics so right that it sucks the player in. It also provides a nice showcase for “extras” – either visually, or mechanics tricks layered over the basic game.
