Source Control in the Labs

by Mike Gleicher on October 25, 2011

According to the CSL, there should now be source code control tools (like TortoiseSVN and TortoiseGIT and HG) on the lab machines.

My experience is that AFS is fine for HG and CVS, but this warning comes from CSL:

The usual recommendations apply for revision control backend stores for
all of these: try to use a flat-file backend when possible if the
backend is to be shared via AFS. We haven't worked with the Windows
fileserver enough at this point to be able to predict how well it will
handle any DB-based backend stores. I am interested in hearing how such
an arrangement works from anyone who tries it.
