The week in 638: Week 3 September 21-25

Last week, we had our first real week, with a reading assignment, a discussion, and a lecture with some simple stuff (types) and some stuff that might be harder the first time you hear it (closures). If you didn’t get closures the first time around, you can check the notes or even watch the video from the lecture. But we’ll talk about them more in the coming weeks.

This coming week, we’ll talk about objects.

  • Your reading assignment is Reading 2: Objects. Remember to post something to the discussion. If there’s something unclear to you, that might be a good place to ask. I may not see it, but if someone else can’t answer maybe it will remind people to ask in class.
  • In Lecture, we’ll start to talk about objects. But some of the functional concepts (like closures) will come back.
  • You have Programming Assignment 0 due – this is just to get you to try programming. Might be a good time to try writing something with a closure.
  • On Wednesday night (for Thursday morning), you will be assigned to peer review 3 other people’s programs. Canvas should do this automatically. You can take a week to do the reviews, and this time there may not be much to say (since the program requirements are minimal)

Hopefully, everyone has resolved their enrollment issues and has switched to pass/fail. If you haven’t you may not like the grade you get.
