The Second Half of the Semester...

We’re now through 7 weeks of the semester. We’ve had the midterm. We’ve had a survey where I got some insight on how things are working. We’ve had a bunch of assignments.

It’s time to “re-plan” for what will happen in the second half. I can’t change too much (I need to fit within existing expectations) but I think we can make some fixes. Here’s both a “status update” and a sense of the plan for the coming weeks.

Feedback and Assessment: - I am sorry, this part hasn’t been going well. I have all sorts of reasons, but there is no excuse. I plan to fix this in the coming week, putting together all the assessment information we have. I am trying to convince Canvas to help me get it to you. I plan to give you feedback and assessment on the first portfolio as well as the engagement aspects of class.

Workbooks and Content Assignments: - There are only two more of these (Assignment Group 5 - Texture - due March 10-12, and Assignment Group 6: Shaders and Graphics Hardware - due April 1-3). I have tried to be more specific about the “workbook expectations.”

Portfolio 2: I’ve decided to try a different strategy for the Portfolio: split it in two. We’ll have Portfolio 2: Making 3D Stuff which will be the “checklist” (basically, make nice versions of the things you’ve already done in the workbooks) and Portfolio 3 (details coming soon) which is more open ended (basically, the Graphics Town assignment from the regular class). Rather than extending the Portfolio 2 deadline, I will keep the pre-break timing, but reduce the scope. (Canvas: Portfolio 2: Making 3D Stuff).

Portfolio 3: Looking ahead, we’ll have Portfolio 3 due Portfolio 3: Graphics Town (due Mon, Apr 14). It will be very similar to the graphics town “project” in the regular class.

Sample Solutions: We have not given out the sample solutions for the workbooks because we needed to come up with a mechanism to give them to students in this section but not the rest of the world (especially students in the other section). We have a way to do this now, so we will give these out soon.
