Post Break Update

Welcome back! Hope everyone had a good break. Here’s a quick reminder what is going on as we move into April…

Expect Portfolio 2 assessments back today (they are done, just need to be uploaded to Canvas). Information here at Portfolio 2 Feedback.

This week, we’ll focus on shaders, which means learning about the graphics hardware. Hopefully you’ve already started on Assignment Group 6: Shaders and Graphics Hardware. There is the usual Content Survey 6: Shaders (due Wed, Apr 02) and Workbook Drafts 6: Shaders (due Wed, Apr 02) - but it is only 1 workbook. It’s just harder material. You need to both do the workbook and watch the videos.

There are 5 lecture videos - the first three are the “core material” and the last 2 are more specialized topics. I am trusting you to try to get the basics yourself.

Please try to do the shader exercises in the workbook before class on Thursday. I plan to work through some of the tricker exercises in class (for example, 10-07-02 the anti-aliased checkerboard). You might want to try it yourself before we do it in class.

Also, don’t forget that Portfolio 3 has been announced. You have 2 weeks.

The idea for Tuesday, April 8 is it will be a day to collaborate (in class) on Portfolio 3. You need to have started… the idea is that we will “trade objects” (everyone needs to use someone else’s object) which can include helping to improve them. Hopefully, working together (in small groups and as a class) will give everyone a chance to explore some more complex things.

Even though the assignment is Graphics Town (Portfolio 3) Check-In Survey (due Tue, Apr 08), you will want to have at least started so you have things to collaborate on. (everyone does an individual assignment - but you are encouraged to trade objects)

On April 10th, we’ll kick off the final projects.
