A summary of the rules.

  1. When in doubt ask.
  2. Read everything. Ignorance is not an excuse.
  3. Academic Conduct: Hold yourself to high standards of academic conduct, and collaborate with others as allowed. (see )
  4. Communications Policy: Communications in this class iare multi-model. Communicate with us via Piazza and Email. Turn things in via GitHub. Receive information from Canvas and the Course Web.
  5. Course Policy on the use of Generative AI Tools: Treat “AI Tools” as if they were a classmate. Use it as a helper, not a replacement for your own learning.
  6. Class Meetings and Attendance: You are required to attend class (except if you are sick). Please fill out the CS559AH attendance form if you miss class.
  7. Grading (and late policy): Don’t expect Canvas to compute your grade. Each assignment has a late policy, and they are generally strict. Your grade will consider assignments/projects, engagement, and exams.

We will determine your grade by considering your engagement (did you complete the appropriate work) and excellence (did you demonstrate your mastery of the material). Engagement includes class attendance, completing assignments in a timely manner, and being active in class collaboration. Excellence involves the quality of your “portfolios” (the projects you will do).

Academic Conduct

In this class you are expected to uphold standards of professional conduct and academic integrity. The University policies on academic misconduct apply to this class.

Proper academic conduct means being honest about your work and being respectful in your communications with staff and other students. It means not presenting the work of others as your own. It means not collaborating on parts of class we ask you not to collaborate on.

Course Policy on the use of Generative AI Tools

You are permitted to use “Generative AI Tools” (such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, and others) according to a set of rules. Basically, you should treat GenAI as if you would a classmate: you should view it as a helper, not a replacement. Some assignments explicitly ask you not to use GenAI tools.
