Waitlist Note
A link to this message will be sent by email to everyone who is on the CS765 Waiting List.
Thank you for your interest in CS765 Data Visualization this semester.
Unfortunately, more students are interested in the class than we can take. There are only 80 seats in the room, and there are (as of this minute) 79 people on the roster, and 26 on the waiting list.
As students drop the class (they will), CS Enrollment staff will admit students from the waiting list. They do this in a “fair” way - using some policy that is meant to be uniform. I have no influence over who they choose (that might be biased and unfair - since it gives preference to people who I know).
What you can do:
Look at the course website to decide if you really want to be in the class. The website is: https://pages.graphics.cs.wisc.edu/765-24/. I recommend you read What Is This Class and Why? first. It is the first link on the Getting Started page. This class is, admittedly, not for everyone. I won’t be offended if you decide that this class is not for you.
- If you decide you do not want to be in the class, please take your name off the waiting list - this way someone who really wants to take the class can be priorizied.
Go through the Getting Started page. You won’t be able to do the Canvas things, but you can at least prepare for class in case you are admitted.
Check Waitlist Note on Wednesday morning for an update. If enough people drop (from both the waitlist and the class), I might have other instructions.
I recommend that you do not come to class Wednesday morning (unless #3 tells you otherwise). This creates a weird thing where the un-enrolled students who do come are the ones who can’t follow directions (and shouldn’t be in the class). I’d like to say “students who break this rule will be de-prioritized”, but as I said above, I don’t get to influence the priorization.
Please do not try to plead with me. Your sob stories just make me sad, and I cannot do anything about it.
If you are not admitted in the first week, you most likely will not be admitted. You should make other plans.
